Fitball Sport fitness ball

Fitball Sport Fitness Ball

Right before I got sick, I got another fitness ball for my son to use: Fitball Sport fitness ball. We got a DVD along with the fitness ball: Fitball Kids DVD.

The Fitball Sport Fitness ball

I wanted to note a few things about this ball.

The Fitball Sport is burst resistant. I got the Fitball Sport soft edition package. It came with:

A pump (although you can use a mattress pump or an air raft pump too)
A poster showing exercises you can do
Care of the ball guide
Inflation instructions
A BallDynamics Catalog

The Fitball Sport fitness ball is very sturdy - holds up to 1250 pounds - so if you’re really heavy, want to try a fitness ball, this is the one for you. The rubber is extremely thick - it puts my other fitness ball to shame - the difference between the two is amazing. The rubber it’s made of is strong, again, my other ball simply cannot compare to it. It’s also soft and comfortable. Ball Dynamics has other fitness balls that hold even more weight. Read up here: Fitball

You can get the Fitball Sport fitness ball in 4 sizes:

45 centimeters - For those 5 years old or up to 4′8.
55 centimeters - If you’re 4′8 - 5′3 tall.
65 centimeters - If you’re 5′3 - 6′0 tall.
75 centimeters - If you’re 6′0 - 6′7 tall.

The Fitball Sport Fitness ball is $23.95 - $20 less than what I paid for my first fitness ball.

The Fitball Kids DVD

I also got the Fitball Kids DVD:

Unfortunately, we only got around to blowing it up, and even though my son uses it all the time - he sits on it, rolls around on it, bounces on it, we haven’t done any structured exercise with it to speak of, short of testing it.

He wants me to do the exercises with him from the Fitball Kids DVD, and I’m just not up to it yet. But he did do the exercises for a couple of days and did the exercises with ease.

And for a true test of your balancing abilities: test it as a footstool in your favorite chair. If you’re anything like me, you won’t be able to keep it in one spot!

The Fitball Kids DVD has three 20 minute workouts. While I haven’t done them myself, I have watched the DVD a couple of times.
The workouts are designed for kids between the ages of 7 and 14 and move along quickly to prevent boredom and work on stretching, cardiovascular and strength in each workout. They would work for an adult who isn’t used to working out with a fitness ball as well.

What Have I Been Doing

What Have I Been Doing Outside of losing my mind?

I started a technical blog, at the prodding of a buddy.

I spent several days killing adware and spyware on my computer, which you can read about on the tech blog if you’re so inclined. As a result of this I managed to kill my back (who knew?) and was on a heating pad for a couple of weeks.

I got the flu twice along with everybody else in the family. The kid got it the worst though, he was out of school for a week.

I was under the misconception that I had recovered from the flu. I didn’t get terrifically sick from the flu, and I gloated at how lucky
I was not to have gotten really really sick. Shame on me for gloating.

About a month ago I started a cough that drove me crazy. I didn’t feel sick. I thought the cough was related to the fires we were having, kept taking cough medicine and nothing worked. Couldn’t sleep at night, and wasn’t getting more than a couple of hours of sleep a night.

I rarely get sick. In fact, the last time I got sick was what - five years ago? And since then I’ve been really lucky. Hence, the gloating.

The cough kept getting worse and worse, finally getting to the point where I was really short of breath, no matter what I did. This started to scare me, and visions of lung cancer, emphysema, and TB entered my brain. (And my mother’s too, come to find out.)

I’m not fond of doctors, indeed I don’t have insurance, so if I do get sick I deal with it. I couldn’t deal with this any longer and finally
broke down and went to the emergency room last weekend.

Where I discovered that I’m going to live. I do have infections in both ears, a sinus infection and acute bronchitis. They gave me a bunch of drugs, and I’ve been on the mend the whole week. It’s amazing what a little breathing can do for a person!

Oh, and if you want to shrink your stomach without exercise? Get bronchitis and start coughing up a storm. I swear, I’ve lost 3 inches just by coughing alone. And nothing is better for your diet than not being able to taste your food!

I’m still not feeling my best, but I do feel better. I can hear out of one ear, it feels like bugs are running around in the other, and
I’m sleeping a little better (in fact, I’m preparing to go take a nap here shortly.) I’m not coughing nearly as much. All in all, I’ve
been sick since March, and I’m over that! I’m looking forward to getting back to normal. This lack of energy thing is no fun.

Exercise For People Over 50

Exercise For People Over 50

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can.

Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day you’ll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks. Then try 50-lb. potato sacks and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I’m at this level.)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks.
