Hoodia (Xhoba) A cactus plant found in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa. The Bushmen of the San Tribe have used hoodia for thousands of years. The Bushmen would go on long hunts with no food, so they would eat hoodia to stave off hunger. It is also fed to their children who eat too much. Hoodia is an appetite suppressant that contains no stimulants. According to scientists from the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Affairs (CSIR), the Hoodia contains a molecule, P 57, that works by mimicking the effect glucose has on the nerve cells in the brain, in effect telling us were fullthus curbing the appetite.
