Diet History

I cannot remember the first diet I was ever on, although I remember my grandma buying me a girdle when I was all of 5.

In the second grade, my mother took me to the doctor, who put me on a diet, and prescribed me black beauties. A black beauty is a little black pill – a speeder. They were very common back then, and anyone who did them recreationally will tell you they kept you going for days.

I took half a black beauty a day, in applesauce. I remember getting sick to death of applesauce, and Mom switched me to pineapple jelly. I got sick of that too.

I lost weight too. 60 or 80 pounds, can’t remember which. I remember my father telling me he didn’t recognize me one day.

Once the doctor took me off the black beauties, I gained it back.

I’ve been on a lot of diets. Off the top of my head:

Air force diet
Atkins diet (the first one)
Cabbage soup diet
Grapefruit diet
Overeaters anonymous (never lost a pound)
Weight Watchers (I lost a little on this)

These were up until the time I was 13. When I was a teenager I tried various things including fasting. No ticky, no washy.

Early 30’s, I went on a low fat diet and lost 80 pounds. Kept it off until I got pregnant, then gained it all back and then some.
Tried low fat on and off after baby, but failed due to gall bladder issues.

I’m currently following You on A Diet – I’m in my late 40’s, and am having success at this point.

Mission:

There are a couple.

I need to lose weight and get on an exercise plan.
Babyboy needs to lose weight as well. He weighs 150lbs, and is 9 years old. Not only does he need to lose weight, but his eating habits need to completely change. (Mine do as well, but I know what I need to do, he does not. I have no “food dysfunction” – I never have. The only things I wouldn’t eat as a child was peanut butter, chili, and squash) On the other hand, I can pretty much list what he will eat and use up almost all my fingers.

Problems:

We are both big eaters.

I know I can diet and pretty much stuff myself and still lose weight as long as I exercise and eat the right things. I cannot go on a diet that allows 3 meals a day. Uh uh, no way. I must be able to eat. And eat alot. I hate exercise. Despise it. The only exercise I can tolerate is – don’t laugh – weight lifting. Will keep track of all diet and exercise. Start a diet notebook a week or so before diet, just keep track of regular eating for a week or so.

Teach Babyboy to read labels.
