Strength Training – Safety

Strength Training – Safety

Strength training is known as resistance training and weight training. It involves using weight machines or free weights to improve muscle endurance and strength. If you’re not careful with resistance training, you can injure yourself if you use equipment incorrectly or use bad form. Make sure to use care when strength training.

  • Make sure to use a spotter
  • Always use the correct posture
  • Wear correct footwear
  • When you return weights to their area, use caution
  • Make sure your equipment is up to standard
  • Warm up and stretch before starting
  • Begin with large muscles first
  • Start slow
  • Cool down
  • To avoid injury, make sure you handle weights and equipment correctly
  • Stop training should any pain occur
  • Learn to breathe correctly
  • You should use a belt to protect your back when lifting weights
  • Make sure you are familiar with any exercise equipment you use, know how to use the equipment for the most effect during strength training workouts. A personal trainer can help you with the ins and outs if you’re uncomfortable going it alone. A personal trainer can give you their advice and perspective on training safely at home or in the gym. If you’re older, or are just starting strength training, this is the best advice you can get: learn to listen to what your body is telling you. It will tell you when to stop.

Strength training ought to be performed slowly, because it will provide more resistance. You should be careful as well not to grip weights too tightly, because it might raise blood pressure. Avoid undue pressure and do not lock your joints when using weights.
