The Sonoma Diet Weight Loss Plan

Connie Guttersen, R.D., Ph.D. is the culinary expert and registered dietician behind the Sonoma Diet weight loss plan. The New York Times stated:

The Sonoma Diet belief is that you don’t need to go hungry in order to diet and lose weight, that you’ll eat an array of foods with no remorse, and that it the weight loss plan will help you obtain a healthier lifestyle.

The Sonoma Diet weight loss plan is a spin-off of the Mediterranean Diet – it blends foods from the Mediterranean and Sonoma Valley that are simple to assemble that helps you to change your eating habits and lose weight. Branded “3 Waves of Weight Loss,” the weight loss plan has three segments, called Waves. The core food centers around almonds, bell peppers, blueberries, broccoli, grapes, olive oil, spinach, strawberries, tomatoes, and whole grains, which are considered power foods because they are vital to health and weight loss.

3 Waves of Weight Loss

Wave 1 – Dieters are encouraged to do away with food which include refined flours, sugar, anything that is not whole grain, bad fats containing hydrogenated and saturated fats. No fruit is allowed, as you begin to kick the sugar habit. This wave lasts 10 days, and is the most extreme; you may find that the calorie intake is too low for your liking. Foods that are allowed are some vegetables, lean meats, seafood, limited dairy, certain grains. To help you adjust, you’ll be able plan your meals online with access to a recipe library.

Wave 2 – Wave 2 permits the same foods in Wave 1, with the addition of fruit, more vegetables, with more calories, you’ll stay at Wave 2 and continue to lose weight steadily until you hit your desired weight.

Wave 3 – Once you’ve lost your desired weight, you move on to Wave 3. Wave 1 and Wave 2 principles of healthy eating are supported in this stage, and recommends more fruits and vegetables. At this point, you’ll be able to maintain a healthier lifestyle and enjoy your great new figure.
Portion control is stressed, and the Sonoma Diet weight loss plan recommends using 7 inch or 9 inch plates, and 2 cup bowls. There is a portion guide to assist you in every Wave.
